Welcome Parents!
The CLA ExperienceThe College of Liberal Arts considers advising an important component of an undergraduate student's academic experience. A combination of advising from student community, departmental, and career planning offices helps students better explore, plan, and graduate in four years. The CLA First-Year Experience is designed to help insure students have a successful start to their college career. The CLA Year Guides provide milestones for students to follow. When students complete their degrees, the college's graduation events help students celebrate their accomplishments.
The University of Minnesota student learning and development outcomes provide a framework for the undergraduate educational experience.
Discover CLA
The Discover CLA website is a good way to learn about academics, careers and majors, the student experience and campus life. In the careers and majors section you can learn about the more than 60 majors offered by CLA, and the assistance to students provided by the CLA Career Services office.
Parent Orientation
The Orientation & First-Year Programs office provides Parent & Guest orientations for parents of first-year students and parents of transfer students. These programs are concurrent with your student's orientation.
Be Supportive
You can play a vital role in helping your student identify and connect with their strengths, interests, and goals.
Be connected
The University has a wealth of online information that can be useful for parents. The University Parent
website collects and organizes information on topics such as academics, money matters, health and safety, career planning, and transportation. The Timely Issues section is a monthly guide to what your student may be experiencing or thinking about.
