Discover Your Major

Your Academic Milestones

  • Complete a minimum of 90 credits by the end of your third year.

  • Take courses to fulfill major requirements, and especially upper-level courses for your major.

  • Complete the Second Language requirement.

  • Take remaining Liberal Education requirements as upper-level courses, when possible, or complete them as part of a study away program.

  • Work toward completion of the 48 upper-level credit requirement. Also, many BA degrees require completion of 18 credits of upper-level coursework outside of your major.

  • Remember to officially declare minors and second majors.
Connect with People
  • Schedule an appointment to meet with your Student Community adviser.

  • Get to know your professors: use instructor office hours.

  • Talk to the Career and Community Learning Center to explore career paths. Meet with a peer adviser or career counselor.
Get Involved!
  • Complete at least one engagement activity.

  • Connect with the career and community learning center if you are considering graduate school or law school.

  • Do an internship. Internship experience makes you a stronger  job or grad school candidate.

  • Read your Student Community e-newsletter.

  • What did you learn about "ways of knowing" in your discipline? How do people in your discipline approach information analysis and knowledge creation?

  • Interview a professor or other professionals about careers that interest you.

  • Write down goals.  Establish intermediate goals that you'll need to complete to meet long-term goals and discuss your goals/plans with your adviser.
